This news comes as less of a surprise and more of a disappointment to the many Zune supports throughout the world. It had been rumoured for over a week now that Microsoft would be stopping production on their MP3 players and now a glance at the Zune support page confirms it. Though it’s still listed to buy on the site but the link goes to wal-marts site and it is sold out there.

MSN junkies are rejoicing, being fans of the Microsoft messaging platform they are certainly more likely to also own Microsoft’s own portable media player as well, at least that what the Zune team heard from the official forums. Having the Windows Live Messenger app was a very requested application on the Zune forums and around the net. It is not available on the Zune Marketplace for any who already own the Zune HD, and will likely be ported soon to the Windows Phone 7 that is yet to be released, as it does not have it by default.

The fact that the new Windows Phone has Xbox Live integration was apparently not enough proof that Microsoft wants to push gaming on their mobile platform. Their latest job post is asking for a skilled coder to join their MGS (Mobile Games Studio) “to deliver games and entertainment so good that people will want them always with them, on a service that makes them social, connected and relevant anywhere their life goes”. “the studio will develop showcase internal mobile games and entertainment experiences, while acting as the technical hub and spearhead for mobile game technology.”
