Top 10 Original Xbox Games

Top 10 Original Xbox Games

Last week I made a list of my top 10 Gamecube games to commemorate the 10th anniversary of that system’s launch (P.S. haters – I didn’t like Pikmin. Deal with it.) but the Gamecube wasn’t the only system to launch in November of 2001: the original Xbox is also about to turn ten. While the original Xbox was always a distant second to the PS2, it’s still a very important system for a number of reasons: it laid the groundwork for the eventual success of the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, popularized traditionally PC-only genres such as FPS’s and Western RPG’s with console gamers, and arguably single-handedly legitimized  and popularized Western game development and game design philosophy in the traditionally Japanese dominated console market.

Microsoft didn’t reveal any information about the individuals regarding this in their announcement.

Homefront Review

Homefront Review

Homefront is a first person shooter which has obtained a lot of attention, possibly due to its completely refreshing setting, when compared to similar games, such as Battlefield or Call of duty. Homefront was developed by a fairly inexperienced developer; Kaos studio. Kaos studio has just one previous title to their name – Frontlines: Fuel of War – which was barely a noteworthy game by any standard, despite sharing.

Xbox Dashboard Beta Rolls Out – No Features Yet

Xbox Dashboard Beta Rolls Out – No Features Yet

The screen shots are now rolling in of Microsoft updating Xbox’s that opted-in for the new Dashboard preview and for the only screen shot we have seen so far it appears that not much has changed at all. The only notable addition is “Xbox Beta” channel, which contains three new titles: “Xbox Beta Program – Preview LIVE Update,” which inconveniently isn’t clickable yet, “New Features” and “Help and Tips.”

Halo: Reach Review

Halo: Reach Review

The Halo series gets a lot of flak; it’s hated on by contrarians because it’s popular and it’s trendy to hate anything that has any sort of sizable following, and it’s obviously hated by Sony and PC fanboys who simply blindly dismiss anything that isn’t on their platform of choice. Of course, some of that hate stems from the people that populate Halo’s online community, which seems like it’s made almost entirely of pre-pubescent internet tough guys and dudes who really love raised trucks. But all of these reasons to hate Halo are completely unfair, because regardless of what platform it’s on, or the audience it attracts, the fact is the games within the Halo series have consistently and undeniably been great, and out of all of them, the newest entry in the franchise, Halo Reach, is simply the best.

Oddworld: Stanger’s Wrath Coming to PS3

Oddworld: Stanger’s Wrath Coming to PS3

Just Add Water has just added a second game to their Playstation 3 library of creations. Their first being the little known Gravity Crash which was released last December. Their most recent game, as you may have surmised from the title, is a port of the Original Xbox classic Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath. The original was developed by the fine folks at Oddworld Inhabitants and it was their last game before the studio became defunct, though they are currently working on a film entitled Citizen Siege. J.A.W. is working closely with OI to ensure that this port is a faithful HD re-mastering of the original.
