A few sites have claimed that Doom 4 has been postponed due to Rage having a very lackluster launch, but Pete Hines stepped up and yelled “Bollocks!” to that. Kotaku reported on this saying that an undisclosed source said id Software’s Doom 4 project was on hiatus, but once again, bollocks.
The game I pre-ordered and waited an ungodly amount of time for finally arrived via my sexy mail carrier’s sweaty man-hands and nobody was more excited than I (probably because I was the only one home). After playing through a few quests, here are my first impressions.
RAGE is only days away from release and it has gained some momentum of interest as details trickle out. Bethesda has decided to give fans a taste of gameplay, much like they have done in the past with Fallout and more recently Skyrim. So check out the video after the break and get the game October 4.
Shocking eh? The upcoming first-person shooter RAGE is going to have a colossal install (for a console game) of 7.6GB of hard drive space. If you’re wondering how long that will take to install, it’s roughly 30 minutes or so, which is enough to watch an episode of something or do something constructive with your life until you get pulled into another game.
They’re high. The recommended and minimum requirements for RAGE follow as was revealed recently. This thing is well beyond what my laptop is capable of and that’s not a small feat considering I just upgraded it with my cash last week.
At Quake Con, John Carmack talked for 90 minutes straight without taking a breath, but also revealed a lot of information about Rage. One of the more glaring ones is the fact that, when installed, Rage will take over 20 gigabytes on your hard drive. Yes, 20 gigabytes. No typo. Exclusive DLC for pre-orders is nothing new in recent years. However, Battlefield “fans” appear to have forgotten that and are raging and saying they are going to boycott the game. DICE has heard the complaints coming in from the users and have responded via their FAQ section on their blog.
Its funny, you hear about a new shooter coming out, and generally its “campaign was pretty short, but the multiplayer is awesome”. This has unfortunately in a lot of cases become a very annoying trend. The way I see it some games excel with multiplayer i.e. Battlefield, and some games excel with story i.e. Fallout 3, and every now and then you get a great combination of both with something like Halo: Reach.
The post-apocalyptic wasteland is a few more months away yet, but you don’t have to wait until September to delve into the Rage universe. id Software parent Bethesda Softworks announced a deal with Dark Horse Comics that will see the print publisher release a three-issue miniseries based on the game.
I ran across this little beauty this afternoon, and thought that I would pass it along to everyone. Here is the new gameplay trailer from the up and coming Rage. This is the new title from iD, the great team behind famous shooters like Doom and Quake.
Aside from Gears of War 3 and Forza 4, Microsoft hasn’t announced any real noteworthy Xbox 360 exclusives for 2011, but that doesn’t mean the system is lacking in heavy hitters. While we patiently wait for some new announcements, there are enough cross-platform blockbusters to keep you glued to your console.
As far as the feedback goes from the show floor at Quakecon, Rage is looking gorgeous on all three platforms and we will get to have our hands on it sooner then you may think. Rage will be released September 13th/2011 in the US and September 15th/2011 in Europe.
