PS3 “12 for ’12″ sale starts tomorrow

Great sales are arriving on the PS3 and PSN in order to kick off 2012. As listed on the official PlayStation Blog, 12 downloadable titles are now 30% off to all PSN users and 50% off to PS Plus subscribers.

Some of the games included are BloodRayne: Betrayal, PixelJunk SideScroller, Dungeon Defenders, and Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection. Most titles are either retro ports or inspired by classics, so those of you looking for a nice and cheap dose of nostalgia might want to check these out.

The Modern Warfare 3 Campaign Review – It’s Awesome

The Modern Warfare 3 Campaign Review – It’s Awesome

I sat down and played through the whole Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 campaign (because it looks like three, maybe four other people did as well and I kind of wanted to even the playing field) in five and a half hours. The following are my thoughts on the campaign in its entirety.

Sony Patents “Biometric” Controllers

Sony Patents “Biometric” Controllers

You remember the Wii Vitality Sensor?  The weird little Wii-remote attachment that clipped onto your finger and monitored your pulse and stress level? Nintendo promised that the weird add-on would have “interesting” uses within games, but Nintendo themselves seems to have given up on the idea of “biometric” sensing games in favor of focusing on their upcoming Wii U. Still, despite Nintendo abandoning the idea, Sony seems to think there’s still some merit to the idea.

Resident Evil Fans: Sign Up for Playstation Plus

Resident Evil Fans: Sign Up for Playstation Plus

While I still think PSN’s biggest advantage over Xbox Live comes from the fact that it’s free, Sony has been pretty good about giving out incentives to sign up for their paid subscription service, and right now seems like a good time to sign up for Sony’s shameless cash grab, particularly if you’re a fan of a Resident Evil: all of the PS1 entries in the series will be available for free to PS+ subscribers starting Sept. 20th, and the new HD re-releases of RE4 (best title in the series, in my humble [but correct] opinion,) and Code Veronica will be available for half-price ($9.99) for PS+ members as well.

In semi-related news, Popcap Game’s fantastic Plants vs. Zombies will be available for free to PS+ members as well, in case all those Resident Evil games weren’t enough to sate your zombie addiction. As always, your ability to play any of the “free” games on PS+ will be revoked should you let your subscription expire, but any games you bought at a discount are yours to keep for forever, so the discount on RE4 and Code Veronica alone is worth considering.

Sony announces Playstation branded 3D TV

Sony announces Playstation branded 3D TV

As part of their continuing initiative to get 3D TV’s into more homes, Sony announced a special Playstation branded 24 inch 3D TV that will go on sale this Fall.  The TV comes bundled with a pair of 3D glasses, an HDMI cable, and a copy of Resistance 3 for the surprisingly low price of $499.

Sony is deliberately selling the TV at a lower price than most 3D TV’s with the hope that it will increase the adoption rate of 3D TV’s, which have so far not seen the explosive sales that HD-TVs had when they were first introduced.

Duracell reveals an extender for Playstation 3 Slims.

Duracell reveals an extender for Playstation 3 Slims.

Duracell has revealed their new accessory for the PS3, aptly and simply named the Duracell Extender. What this piece of hardware does is offer additional slots for the PS3 hardware, including slots for SD cards, memory sticks, and three additional USB ports. Not only that, but it can charge and store two DualShock controllers, which is really useful.

The Extender holds its own power supply, meaning the console can be switched off and the extender can still charge. The hardware itself shows its battery life so you wont get caught with your pants down when your battery in the controller runs out of power.

Sony admits PSN hackers have your personal info

PS3- It only does everything–  Including leak your personal info online. PSN mysteriously went down last week, and while Sony initially claimed the outage was caused by “maintenance,” it has since become clear that the act was the result of malicious hackers, and now Sony is admitting that the hack has resulted in millions of PSN users’ personal info being leaked, with the possibility that credit card info was stolen as well.
