My Love Letter to Battlefield 3

My Love Letter to Battlefield 3

Dear Battlefield 3,
It’s so nice we have finally had a chance to get to know one another. You know, I was raised to never judge a book by its cover, and I am glad our relationship didn’t end on our first impressions. Because let me tell you, we got off to quite the rocky start. Leading up to your release, all I could talk about was how awesome BF3 was going to be…and than the beta came out.

Battlefield 3 is 50% off on Origin until Christmas

EA is really trying to prove their Origin service is an up and comer to Steams online game marketplace, with plenty of deals, though 50% of a somewhat high profile game isn’t quite as impressive as the 80 and 90% off deals Valve offers. Regardless of what EA’s trying to do this is still a great deal if you haven’t had the chance to experience the amazing multiplayer that Battlefield 3 offers.

Battlefield 3 getting tweaks, server blacklists, and possibly more maps.

Alan Kertz of Battlefield’s gameplay design has given details of the upcoming updates and some insight into how an online game like this gets properly balanced despite problems on individual maps. For instance, the IRNV scope which was recently nerfed to a degree has caused some division in the community. Some thinking it was nerfed too much, and others thinking it was nerfed too little. Some videos have shown that its effectiveness on certain maps is very inconsistent.

DICE explains why destruction was reduced, and talks about bug fixes.

Even though the look and sound of destruction in Battlefield 3 is far better than the previous entries, fans have commented that the degree of destruction has fallen significantly. Just about any building in Bad Company 2 for example could be turned into rubble easily, but this number has fallen quite a bit since BF3.

Battlefield 3 gets patches to improve stability and gameplay on consoles

Battlefield 3 gets patches to improve stability and gameplay on consoles

Servers are often subject to problems, especially in games like Battlefield 3  which have to make millions, even billions of calculations every few seconds, and all the while passing accurate data to all players in the game. DICE is certainly aware of the current issues plaguing console gamers and has quickly released a few patches with more being worked on to correct the biggest problems.

As with many popular releases, Battlefield 3 gets server trouble.

As with many popular releases, Battlefield 3 gets server trouble.

Battlefield 3 was released recently much to the satisfaction of many who have been keeping a strong eye on the news, myself included in that. However, this was inevitable and I wouldn’t be surprised if I called it in a previous article. The servers for multiplayer today had a bit of a problem and went down like a castle wall during a siege.

It’s not unusual to hear about this, but in the face of technology and the industry, this shows that even in these times of a “recession” the gaming industry is still going strong, and the servers of a highly-anticipated game going down is a testament to just how well something can do.

This has been a repeating trope for games for quite a while. The administrator of any server will tell you that a massive influx of people all at once will ruin your servers faster than if you took a jackhammer to its hard drive. Maybe the game developers will wisen up and start to tip off the server providers that what is basically the entirety of the American gaming community is going to be beating down their door.

DICE: Console gamers wont get a watered-down experience in Battlefield 3 despite lower Player Limit.

Battlefield 3 is one of the most anticipated games of the year, especially among the FPS community to even where I’m reporting on it (and I’m not an FPS person at all), but it’s commonly known that the console version of a PC game suffers in multiple aspects, but DICE are going out of the way to make sure that this does not happen to a high degree. Battlefield 3 on consoles will only have a maximum of 24 players and smaller maps due to technical limits, and Patrick Liu has gone on record to say that this will not effect the experience of the game.

DICE Community Manager tells off ranting Noobs on the Battlefield 3 Forums.

Because of members being mad at Operation Metro being the map for the Battlefield 3 Beta, the forums have resulted in QQing noobs, rants, whining in general, and zh1nt0, Community Manager for DICE has had quite enough and pitched in his two cents on all the ranting that was taking place from people who were allowed into a fairly exclusive club as a reward for customer loyalty.

The post was deleted shortly after it was posted, but it was snagged by Google and several of the users. Once something is on the internet, it never goes away, full text below.
