Just in case you think boosters get away with it, user banned for 5000 days after spending over $1000

Now this is quite the fail, Modern Warfare 3 player HotShot__01 was landed with a hefty 14-year ban for boosting. If you don’t know, boosting is deliberate exploitation of game mechanics to level up at a much faster rate than you are normally expected to. The most common form is people willingly letting you kill them. This is considered an exploit and a bannable offense.

“Western games don’t sell in Japan.” “Japanese people hate first person shooters.” These are sentiments you hear a lot from people within the gaming industry and press, and for the last few years, all the data suggested these statements were true. It’s no secret that Western developed games aren’t very popular in Japan; the Xbox 360 has only barely sold a million systems in the country, which remains firmly devoted to Sony and Nintendo, and games like Halo, Fallout, and GTA, which manage to break records everywhere else in the world, only have a niche following in the Far East. While Western games have never caught on in Japan, first person shooters in particular have traditionally been despised by Japanese gamers, but that appears to be changing.

Call of Duty Elite, Activision’s premium pay-to-use service that offers extensive options to gamers willing to throw even more dollars at the game, is in its death throes as developers struggle to provide the service to PCs. Already collapsing under the weight of its own base of subscribers for consoles, the PC offering is being put on the shelf while Activision struggles to fix what is already live.
