It seems like an odd way to announce a new(-ish) game, but while answering questions with fans over Twitter, Blizzard community manager Micah Whipple confirmed that the company’s highly anticipated hack and slash is indeed making it’s way to consoles.
I’m sure you, like the countless other RPG fans, can not wait for the oft-delayed release of Diablo III, bt you may already be aware of this compendium of Diablo knowledge. What you may not have known is that it the Book of Cain will be released December 13th, and includes Cain’s first hand account of his time in the Diablo world. It’s currently up fro pre-order on Amazon for $22.40.
As was reported recently, the “gambling” aspect of Diablo 3 having randomly-dropped loot and being able to sell it for real-world cash caused a stir in South Korea and was possibly running foul of laws and regulations in the country. However, Paul Sams, the Chief Operating Officer of Blizzard held a press conference for the Korean Media was asked about the issue multiple times, and he gave an answer.
The next instalment in the Starcraft II trilogy is still without an official release date but Blizzard has finally released a trailer with enough content to whet the appetite of any Starcraft fan. In two minute trailer comprised of mostly in-game footage you will see every new unit, with at least one new unit per class (Zerg, Protoss and Terran).
During my visit to Anaheim last weekend for the 6th annual Blizzcon, I got the chance to try out the new Diablo III.
Diablo has traditionally had three difficulties, Normal, Nightmare, and Hell. One of the few online games I can name with fully instanced game rooms with multiple difficulties, but as the metagame grows, even Hell Mode doesn’t provide a suitable challenge. Blizzard has responded to this with Inferno mode.
Today, Blizzard has started officially sending out their beta invites for much anticipated Diablo 3. To be eligible to receive the beta key/invite you would have had to opt in for it through your battlenet account. If you have opted in for the invite and haven’t checked your email, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? you can download the game now and play it.
They claim it’s for community reasons, they claim it’s to allow savefiles, and they claim it’s nothing to do with piracy but I find most of these statements questionable at best. Blizzard is surprised at the backlash despite a strong foot in the online gaming industry.
As action RTS games are gaining steam in the industry of online gaming, the pioneering publisher of the genre caught so much attention last year after it announced its plans on releasing a mod for StarCraft II that will takes its roots from the popular Warcraft II Gaming Mod – Defense of the Ancients. Blizzard DOTA, expected to be released in the last quarter of 2011 just hit a big dead-end and will seem to be overhauled from the ground up, which is sure to be nothing as the same with what Blizzard presented during the last BlizzCon.
Even though DRM that relies on a constant internet connection has absolutely no upsides and greatly upsets and angers players, and also makes them turn to cracks and piracy when they would have otherwise purchased the game, Blizzard has declared that Diablo 3 cannot be played while offline.
With free to play MMOs becoming rapidly more popular, it’s beginning to be a major source of competition for Blizzard’s colossal MMO World of Warcraft. Games like Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine and League of Legends are completely free to play, but users can fork over real world cash for certain unique items exclusive to a payment shop.
Diablo is known for having a small amount of classes, the first game having three, and the second having five. Seven in the expansion. Small, but the amount of builds possible for any given class are in the extremes.
Blizzard’s Bashiok talked about the class balance, and said that all classes are equally DPS classes. Meaning they are all capable of doling out huge amounts of damage equally. It doesn’t mean that a spellcaster who focuses on defense will be as viable as a barbarian who can tank bosses however.
