Resident Evil Creator Shinji Mikami Is Making a Horror Game With Bethesda

Shinji Mikami will forever be synonymous with horror games. While he’s spent the last few years creating some amazing action games (the revolutionary RE4, cult classic God Hand, and the tragically underrated Vanquish,) he’s always going to be most famous for directing the original Resident Evil, the game which coined the phrase “survival horror” in the first place. After a long absence, Mikami is returning to the genre he helped popularize with a brand new survival horror game, currently codenamed “Zwei.”

Fallout: Nuka Break Fan Series Kickstarting Season 2

Fallout: Nuka Break Fan Series Kickstarting Season 2

The people at Wayside Creations are putting together season two of their popular fan-made series Fallout: Nuka Break, and they’ve decided to see if Kickstarter can give them the bottlecaps they need. Their original fan film Fallout: Nuka Break and the series it spawned have almost two million views on YouTube. It looks like they’re shooting for more production value with season two, and have also managed hire Doug Jones of Hellboy and Pan’s Labyrinth to play one of this season’s new characters. Even though the first season was well done, it’s good to see them attempt to expand on the series for season 2. With the popularity of gaming projects within Kickstarter growing, maybe this is the perfect time for a fan-made spin-off series.

Mojang Settles with Bethesda Over “Scrolls”

Mojang Settles with Bethesda Over “Scrolls”

It looks like Mojang and Bethesda have settled their differences over the title of Mojang’s new game “Scrolls.” Back in August, Bethesda’s legal team sent Mojang a 15 page letter advising them that their name of their new game “Scrolls” infringed on Bethesda’s trademarked “Elder Scrolls,” essentially advising them to change the name of their game. While it seems strange to think that Mojang’s digital card game has anything in common with Bethesda’s open-world dragon-slaying RPG besides the use of a noun, Notch at Mojang chalked it up to “lawyers being lawyers” in August.

Skyrim Developers Go Nuts with In-House Game Jam

Skyrim Developers Go Nuts with In-House Game Jam

The folks over at Bethesda decided to unwind after completing their work on Skyrim… by doing more work on Skyrim. Who can blame them really? With a world as robust as theirs, who wouldn’t want to fiddle around. The rules of this in-house Game Jam were simple, developers took a week to add anything they want to Skyrim… anything.

Concept Artist of Fallout 3 and Skyrim, Adam Adamowicz, Passes Away

Concept Artist of Fallout 3 and Skyrim, Adam Adamowicz, Passes Away

Sad news indeed. The talented and passionate designer that gave Fallout 3 and Skyrim their distinctive look, Adam Adamowicz, has died. A humble man who had very little recognition nor a need for it, but was extremely passionate about his job, as proven by his workspace that had every available inch covered by hand-drawn art. You can read the story from a fellow concept artist and see a degree of his artwork here. He can put this into words better than I can.

May he rest in peace.

Bethesda: “We’re addressng that in the [PS3] 1.4 update planned for this month.”

Bethesda: “We’re addressng that in the [PS3] 1.4 update planned for this month.”

The ‘that’ is the lag problems that plague the PS3 version of Skyrim, which were discovered quickly after many became addicted to the latest entry in the Elder Scrolls series. See, how this bug works is that too many things have to be kept track of by the game, and they don’t despawn.

A previous patch reduced the symptoms of the lag which rendered Skyrim completely unplayable after a period of time, but did not completely fix it. The 1.4 patch has been confirmed to fix the problem by the Bethesda Blog’s official Twitter account. Hopefully this time they’ll solve the issue so we can play Skyrim without risk of losing progress.

Whenever you suffer this problem or not, this will be their second go at fixing this bug which also plagued a Fallout game, meaning that it’s an engine problem rather than a problem with the game itself. Bethesda games have never been known for their stability so things like this have come to be expected of their games, and are often forgiven due to the extreme size and scope of their game worlds.

Now, polish my spear.

Skyrim’s popularity causes shortages with its sales numbers, shifts millions of copies.

After creating what is basically a digital copy of the US mint, Bethesda’s release of Skyrim has been met with mountains of sales and popularity, sucking up people’s time and putting money in plenty of pockets. Even when I went to my local Wal-Mart it was completely sold out on all platforms multiple times.
