During last night’s Nintendo Direct livestream, company President Satoru Iwata spoke about some upcoming new features for the 3DS. The long awaited (and much needed) ability to download demos is now available on the Japanese 3DS e-shop, with Metal Gear Solid 3D, Resident Evil: Revelations, Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy, and Sega’s Rhythm Thief being among the first demos of full, retail games available for download. These demos are only available on Japanese 3DS’s at the moment, but it’s safe to assume that a similar selection of demos will hit the American and European e-shops sooner rather than later.
Mario Games Sell Over 1 Million, 3DS Still Going Strong
Nintendo didn’t see very strong sales numbers when the 3DS first came out. However, with the help of a price-drop and a better game lineup, they seem to be bouncing back. Both of the recent games from the Mario franchise have done exceeding well, with Super Mario 3D and Mario Kart 7 each having sold over 1 million units.
Kingdon Hearts 3D(Dream Drop Distance) is dropping in North America and Europe in 2012
This make come a little surprise considering the popularity of the Kingdom Hearts series outside Japan, but even still, Square-Enix officially announced that Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance will be released to PAL and NTSC-U regions sometime next year, after its March release in Japan. This entry in to the series promises to add more new features beyond the glasses-free 3D.
Vita Sells 321,000 Units in Japan within Two Days
The PlayStation Vita launched on the 17th in Japan and within just 2 days Enterbrain reports has recorded 321,407 Vita consoles sold on December 17th and 18th. To put that in perspective of other handhelds that have come out in the past — The Japanese launch of the 3DS had 371,326 units sold within the first two days but then sales dropped until the price cut in August but Enterbrain is estimating that the Vita will steam ahead and reach 1.4 million sales the first week.
New Pokemon is… Based on Japanese History?
Nintendo officially revealed the newest Pokemon game tonight and it’s… well, it’s probably not what you (or anyone) was expecting. The new game is a crossover between Pokemon and Tecmo Koei’s Nobunaga’s Ambition, a series of strategy games that are based on the real life Japanese period of the Warring States.
Ambassador GBA Games available for download on 3DS eShop
It’s been a lengthy wait, for the impatient, since the 10 NES games were made available back in September for those early adopters of the 3DS. For those who did not grow up in the NES era there was likely little worth getting excited over when those 10 titles were announced and made some 3DS owners even more eager to get the forthcoming GBA games. It has been three long months and these games are certainly worth the wait.
PS Vita Kissing Instruction Books Goodbye
Want to Share Your Vita with Someone on a Different PSN Account? Too Bad
Recently, the news whether or not Sony’s newest handheld will allow for multiple PSN accounts per device or not and we finally have solid answers. A PSN account is not only tied to just a memory card, it’s tied to both the card and the Vita it’s self, Sony told Wired.
What this means for the customer is that “If a second person is using your Vita, it’s not just a case of switching out memory cards, it’s clearing out all of your saved data on the Vita itself when you do the factory reset.” Which, I guess, is their way of trying to combat piracy and make sure no one tries any work around (like that will ever work) in addition annoying the customers of families. Hopefully you didn’t plan on sharing your handheld with a sibling or use that Japanese account to get import games on your American Vita.

If for some reason you don’t yet own a smart phone and don’t have Plants Vs. Then this should be great news to you as Sony’s offical PlayStation Twitter account tweeted the little tid bit as well as the above picture.
It’s still unclear whether or not the Vita version will have newer levels or additional features to draw in the not-yet adopters or others who just want another platform to play on.
Vita is set to launch in North America in February.
