The biggest surprise out of the Nintendo Direct live stream today came not from Nintendo, but rather, three of Japan’s biggest third parties: Capcom, Sega, and Namco announced that all three companies are working together on some sort of mysterious cross-over game for the 3DS. No details were revealed, but the internet is already exploding with speculation.

Seaman Comes Again
Sorry about that headline. I couldn’t resist.
Anyway, Japanese news outlet Nikkei is reporting that Nintendo is launching a new initiative in which the Kyoto publisher will pick up and produce entries in other publishers’ franchises. This is a bizarre move for the usually withdrawn and conservative Nintendo, but even more bizarre is the first game they’ve decided to revive: Sega’s virtual life experiment Seaman.

RUMOR: Nintendo might rename the Wii-U
Since day one, the name “Wii-U” has been ridiculed. If you weren’t groaning over the fact that Nintendo just lazily slapped a “U” at the end of an already criticized console name, you were one of the people making references to Ling from Kung Pow! Enter the Fist. After much debate, it looks like Nintendo agrees — the name (probably) won’t work.
Save 50% on Select 3DS games at Best Buy
Best Buy has partnered with Nintendo to create the “Nintendo Zone” at select locations. The “zone” apparently allows 3DS owners to connect to the eShop, play games online, and trade info with other 3DS owners… which basically just makes it sound like any other regular wi-fi hotspot. But if you take your 3DS down to the Nintendo Zone this week and you’ll be rewarded with a coupon that will get you 50% on a selection of 3DS games.
New 5 Minute Long Resident Evil Revelations Trailer
Resident Evil Revelations demo available now
The 3DS is slowly growing into a platform that can call itself modern, with today marking the first demo available for a retail game on the system. Sure, Nintendo hasn’t always been on the cutting edge of Internet integration but it seems they are starting it off right, with a demo of the best looking game on the 3DS to date.

What the 3DS Needs to Remain Relevant in 2012
The 3DS has come a long way since it launched less than a year ago and this is thanks to extensive firmware updates, a price cut and good software finally coming out for it. Though the portable gaming machine has a long way to come to enjoy more success in this generation. Some things I mention here are more for nit-picking, there are some pretty glaring issues that may be holding back the 3DS from reaching true success.
Nintendo plans to get into the DLC business
Even though Nintendo have a very firm stance on DLC, they plan to introduce paid DLC to its games for the first time in the company’s ridiculously-long history. They are late to the party, DLC is everywhere, and is a loved, hated, and often controversial subject among gamers. However, it’s here to stay.
3DS Demos coming, Kid Icarus Uprising Online details
During last night’s Nintendo Direct livestream, company President Satoru Iwata spoke about some upcoming new features for the 3DS. The long awaited (and much needed) ability to download demos is now available on the Japanese 3DS e-shop, with Metal Gear Solid 3D, Resident Evil: Revelations, Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy, and Sega’s Rhythm Thief being among the first demos of full, retail games available for download. These demos are only available on Japanese 3DS’s at the moment, but it’s safe to assume that a similar selection of demos will hit the American and European e-shops sooner rather than later.
