The biggest surprise out of the Nintendo Direct live stream today came not from Nintendo, but rather, three of Japan’s biggest third parties: Capcom, Sega, and Namco announced that all three companies are working together on some sort of mysterious cross-over game for the 3DS. No details were revealed, but the internet is already exploding with speculation.

The Last Story Finally Coming to America, Courtesy of XSEED
Long suffering Wii owners, the drought is over: XSEED Games announced today that they will be publishing Mistwalker’s action-RPG epic The Last Story in North America. The Last Story was published by Nintendo in Japan and Europe, but the North American branch of the hardware giant stupidly refused to bring the game over themselves. Thankfully, XSEED is picking up the ball that Nintendo of America fumbled, and now North American J-RPG fans will get to play this apparently great game.
“Next” Metal Gear Solid Game Coming to PC’s, “High-End” Consoles
Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear Solid series and prolific tweeter, made an announcement today via his favorite social networking platform that their is indeed another Metal Gear Solid game in development, and that Kojima Productions is currently hiring en-masse as they gear up production on the next title in their flagship franchise. More details will apparently be unveiled at this year’s GDC, but here’s what little we know:
Seaman Comes Again
Sorry about that headline. I couldn’t resist.
Anyway, Japanese news outlet Nikkei is reporting that Nintendo is launching a new initiative in which the Kyoto publisher will pick up and produce entries in other publishers’ franchises. This is a bizarre move for the usually withdrawn and conservative Nintendo, but even more bizarre is the first game they’ve decided to revive: Sega’s virtual life experiment Seaman.
Mojang is Making Tim Schafer Look like a Boss Again
It seems that over the past week I’ve been typing the names “Tim Schafer” and “Notch” in the tags on my posts an awful lot. Obviously most of this revolved around Double Fine’s vastly successful Kickstarter campaign and Notch’s hopefully cautious comments about Psychonauts 2. Yesterday Mojang had their successful Humblebundle event. Now, however, Mojang is making Schafer look like a boss, completely by accident.
Mojang Raises a Not-So-Humble-Bundle for Charity
Mojang’s 3 day game jam via humblebundle, which just ended a minute ago, has managed to raise almost $500k for charity. While it would be awesome to report that the charity was the Give Tim Schafer More Money to Make Psychonauts 2 Foundation, it isn’t. Those who donate get to choose from four much more reliable and less make believe charities such as Child’s Play, Electronic Frontier Foundation, charity: water, and the American Red Cross. Contributors choose which, if not all, charities they would like to contribute to, and how their donations are distributed.
Dragonball Z Kinect Outed by Korean Ratings Board
If you grew up watching anime, chances are you spent a good chunk of your childhood punching air and tossing imaginary kamehameha’s in front of your TV while watching Dragonball Z. If so, get ready to relive your childhood in a brand new, equally embarrassing manner, as it looks like a brand new Dragon Ball Z game is being designed specifically for Microsoft’s Kinect.
Players’ Digital Wares Hijacked by Gotham’s Impostors
With some initially positive reviews, it appeared as though Gotham City Impostors might have been able to glide itself towards success. I spent some time with the game last week and agreed that it was a uniquely fun experience. However some players have reported to Joystiq that there is a glitch which resets all previously earned and purchased in-game goods. I really need to stop jinxing the games I write about.

Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus Coming to Arcades, XBLA and PSN
Guilty Gear is back! … Kind of. It’s been 4 years since Guilty Gear Accent Core was released, and outside of the weird action/strategy hybrid Guilty Gear II for Xbox 360 in 2009, there hasn’t been much news regarding Arc System Works’ rock metal themed fighter this generation. Thankfully, Sol Badguy and crew are poised to make their comeback tour sometime soon, as Sega announced today that they’ll be porting the latest version of Guilty Gear over to arcades, XBLA and PSN.
Psychonauts 2/Mojang Collaboration Turned Down a Notch
Damn it! I spoke too soon, maybe I jinxed it. On his blog, Notch is backpedaling a bit as he distances himself from any potential involvement in Psychonauts 2. Well he isn’t distancing himself from the project itself, but maybe initial reports were a little too eager when reporting on the collaboration between Notch and Double Fine.
