The Klei developed beat’em up Shank is getting its deserved sequel early this week to bring a bit more blood into this lovey-dovey month. Shank 2 brings players back in control of the titular character Shank as he travels the gritty comic-book-style world to, well, beat dudes to a bloody pulp, this February 8.

Oklahoma Legislator Wants to Tax Violent Games, Sigh…
A legislator in Oklahoma is proposing a bill to tax violent videogames. Something which I doubt is constitutional, and he is also playing the “Think of the children” card. Quite disgusting. The democratic member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, William Fourkiller wants to levy a tax of 1% on violent games.
Hardcore Elitists Give Gamers a Bad Name
I see it all the time nowadays. Hardcore being used as a title for gamers like it means something, kinda like ELO on League of Legends or karma on Reddit. Touhou aimed at hardcore shooter fans, Etrian Odyssey being aimed at hardcore dungeon crawler fans, same with Dark Souls and anything else that loves to show you the game over screen whenever it feels like it. Sure, I get what it means, but it spawns a problem.

Milkfat Pwns HoN Guinness Record, Plays for 76 Hours.
This past weekend professional competitive gamer, Milkfat, set the new world record for consecutive hours playing Heroes of Newerth. While Guinness is still verifying the figures, S2 Games, creators of HoN, is reporting that 69 of the 76 hours were spent actually playing, while the rest was reserved for breaks. Although he could have spent some of that break time sleeping, he chose to remain awake the entire time in order to, “prove his manliness.” That’s pretty bad-ass considering a South Korean man died in 2005 after a 50 hour Starcraft marathon, due to heart failure caused by exhaustion.
