Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition will Allow Old School Saves

If for some reason you still have the old save files lying around from your previous adventures with Baldur’s Gate then you should be happy to know that your vigilant file saving methods might finally pay off. When asked via Twitter about whether or not the new enhanced version of Baldur’s Gate would be compatible with player’s old save files, Beamdog developer Trent Oster responded, “We haven’t changed the save game formats yet. Hopefully nothing comes up that forces that on us.”  So if you attempted to save Minsc’s wife back in the original Baldur’s Gate , him and his pet hamster, Boo, will continue to fight for your honor all these years later.

The News About Enemy Unknown Keeps Getting Better

The News About Enemy Unknown Keeps Getting Better

When asked by PC Gamer if X-Com Enemy Unknown, the remake of the popular PC title X-Com: UFO Defense, would be using some sort of console driven UI, as shown in screenshots, in the PC version of the game, Jake Solomon’s answer contained six no’s, “No, no, no. Nooo. Oh man, no. I wouldn’t do that to you, are you kidding me? No.” Apparently there are plans for a custom designed UI, exclusive to the PC version. Whew, I have to say, when I saw the screenshots I was worried that they would use some sort of global, watered-down cross platform UI. I’m glad to see that Firaxis, Enemy Unknown’s developers, are more emphatically against it than I am.

Gorgeous Looking “The Banner Saga” Gets A Kickstarter

Gorgeous Looking “The Banner Saga” Gets A Kickstarter

In the wake of Doublefine’s record breaking success in crowd-sourced funding, it seems like every developer is turning to Kickstarter in order to get their games made. But don’t group Stoic Studio’s The Banner Saga in with the rest of the bandwagon jumpers. If this game ends up playing as well as it looks, then it’ll definitely be worth your time and donations.

Korea Creates $1.8K League of Legends Tournament

Korea Creates $1.8K League of Legends Tournament

If you thought commercials in South Korea featuring Starcraft 2 were good, then get excited for some featuring League of Legends. It looks as if the little-MOBA-that-could has become popular enough to deserve its own tournament, at least according to our competitive gaming friends in the eastern hemisphere. They’re willing to pony up almost $200K for not only Korean players, but any team that feels they can compete. I guess now instead of fans crying when their favorite player loses a zealot, they will cry when they give up first blood.

Double Fine’s Kickstarter Raises Over $3M, Ends Today

Double Fine’s Kickstarter Raises Over $3M, Ends Today

If you don’t follow gaming or digital news at all or if you still use an abacus in lieu of a digital calculator, then maybe you haven’t heard about Double Fine’s massively successful Kickstarter campaign. However most of you have likely heard about it, and if you’ve been sitting there wondering whether or not to pledge to Double Fine’s newest adventure title, you only have a few hours left to do so. If you don’t though it doesn’t matter, they’ve raised enough to make Day of the Tentacle, which cost $600,000, five times over. To be honest, I would be cool with 5 more versions of Day of the Tentacle.

“WoW Killer” Might Not be Another MMO Report Says

“WoW Killer” Might Not be Another MMO Report Says

According to this report, Riot Games, owned by Chinese parent company Tencent Holdings, generated more revenue on the PC than Activision Blizzard in 2011. While the numbers are still being tabulated, this means that for the first time in a long time Blizzard’s insanely popular MMO World of Warcraft might not make it to the #1 spot. I guess Blizzard can take solace in the fact that they started all of this. Riot Games’ League of Legends was inspired by DOTA, which was made on Blizzard’s robust Warcraft 3 map editor almost ten years ago. Without that map editor, it isn’t a stretch to think that DOTA and LoL would never have existed.

How One Guy Helped to Destroy Star Wars Galaxies

How One Guy Helped to Destroy Star Wars Galaxies

Most large scale MMOs balance their economies around the idea that most people play with one account. Now while it isn’t unusual to see people with multiple accounts, usually there are too few to do any sort of long term economic damage. But what happens when you combine eight accounts with a savvy eye for detail? That’s exactly what Patrick Desjardins did when he played Star Wars Galaxies. You see Patrick did some research early on in the Beta, eventually asking the development team how the game’s economy would be structured. Their response, “We haven’t really planned for much of anything. I think the players will structure it organically.” Patrick was “dumbstruck” that the team wasn’t going to put any restrictions on the game’s gigantic in-game economic system, so he had an idea.

Medal of Honor Warfighter Pre-order Bonus, Trailer and Release Date

There’s been plenty of information rocketing out of EA lately, for the upcoming Medal of Honor sequel. Possibly the most pertinent is the narrowed release date of October 23, 2012. That’s still a few months away yet, but already they’ve announced what early adopters will get to look forward to.

Mojang Settles with Bethesda Over “Scrolls”

Mojang Settles with Bethesda Over “Scrolls”

It looks like Mojang and Bethesda have settled their differences over the title of Mojang’s new game “Scrolls.” Back in August, Bethesda’s legal team sent Mojang a 15 page letter advising them that their name of their new game “Scrolls” infringed on Bethesda’s trademarked “Elder Scrolls,” essentially advising them to change the name of their game. While it seems strange to think that Mojang’s digital card game has anything in common with Bethesda’s open-world dragon-slaying RPG besides the use of a noun, Notch at Mojang chalked it up to “lawyers being lawyers” in August.
