Capcom released a new trailer for the upcoming Resident Evil 6 today, and while details regarding the game’s actual gameplay are still scant, the new trailer shows (spoils?) a lot of details regarding the next chapter in RE’s convoluted but strangely engaging story. If you don’t mind some spoilers, you can find the full trailer embedded after the jump:
Wasteland 2 Kickstarter isn’t Finished Yet
Well it looks as if the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter has raised enough cash to bring some of the old Black Isle team, now Obsidian Entertainment, back together. Chris Avellone, Chief Creative Officer over at Obsidian Entertainment is going to help write and design Wasteland 2. This is good news for the Wasteland franchise, as Avellone has experience working on other popular RPG titles such as Fallout 1&2, Icewind Dale, and Planescape Torment. In an interview with Rock Paper Scissors, Avellone talks about how important the new Kickstarter model has become and how he think it will affect the industry as a whole.
Dark Souls Coming to PC With New Bosses
Sonic 4: Episode 2 Hopefully Won’t Suck on May 15th
Still like Sonic? I do, sort of, even though Sega doesn’t make it easy at times. Sure, Sonic Colors and Generations were good, but just bringing up Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is a good way to get me to start dry heaving. Sega is promising that the 2nd (and final) episode of Sonic 4 will fix all the substantial problems of the original release, and I suppose we’ll find out when the game is released on PSN on May 15th and XBLA on May 16th.
More Free Mass Effect 3 DLC Coming on April 10
Earlier this week Bioware announced that they would “expand” Mass Effect 3′s divisive ending with a new DLC chapter that will hopefully get the legions of angry fanboys on the internet to put down their pitchforks. In a further gesture of good will, Bioware will also be providing the game’s first multiplayer expansion, entitled the “Resurgence Pack” for free as well.
PAX East Starts Today
Obviously if you aren’t already at this year’s PAX East in Boston then you most likely aren’t going, if you live in the area however there are still tickets available for Sunday. But if you don’t fear not, this year’s event, at least some of it, is being streamed live through Twitch TV. So instead of reading second hand accounts on blogs or 140 character Twitter feeds, you can sit back and enjoy some of PAX East’s content directly, from the comfort of your own home. Today alone there are over 70 different events planned covering everything from competitive gaming to table top games. So far almost 3,000 people are already watching, which is impressive considering only 800 were when I started this paragraph.
Shadowrun Returns Kickstarter Complete After Only 28 Hours
It seems that Kickstarter has gone from a fledgling idea to a legitimate way of doing business in only a matter of months. Usually I get to track a Kickstarter for a few weeks, updating as the story unfolds, but this week the game I wanted to talk about met its goal in only 28 hours. Shadowrun Returns reached and then exceeded their $400,000 goal with less than 10,000 backers, and with 23 days to go the team at Harebrained Schemes LLC is going to have to advise everyone as to what they are going to do with all the extra cash they will most likely receive before it is over.
Mass Effect 3 Gets An “Extended Cut” Ending As Free DLC This Summer
It’s hard to talk about Mass Effect 3 without bringing up its mess of an ending. As I stated in my review, it’s a damn shame that ME3 managed to screw up it’s conclusion while pretty much getting everything else right, and I know I’m not the only one who feels that way. EA and Bioware are aware of fan complaints (and the personal threats and insults,) and they’re going to try to set things right this summer with the release of the “Extended Cut” free DLC pack.
Grasshopper Unveils “Killer Is Dead” for PS3 and 360
Depending on who you ask, Grasshopper Manufacture head Goichi Suda (better known as Suda51,) is either an auteur worthy of celebration or simply a hack. I’m personally more inclined to agree with the former opinion; I enjoyed Killer 7′s bizarre (yet meaningful) story, and I loved No More Heroes. So I’m already pretty excited for Suda’s next assassin themed game, “Killer Is Dead,” which was just unveiled in this week’s issue of Japanese gaming mag Famitsu.
0x10c is Notch’s Newest Game
Markus Persson, better known on the internet as Notch, has begun development on his newest game, entitled “0x10c.” The new game sounds like it may be as strange as it’s title, but with the million selling Minecraft under his belt, I’m sure many gamers are willing to give Notch the benefit of the doubt with his ambitious new project.
Freemium Model to Take Over AAA Market
At least according Ben Cousins the head of ngmoco a AAA mobile studio in Sweden. Cousins also worked on free-to-play projects at Sony, EA, and DICE, so he’s speaking from experience. Earlier this year while giving a talk at GDC, Cousins outlined what he sees as the death of the modern console. He pointed to the growth of companies like Apple, Google, and Facebook who focus on social platforms and smartphones, saying that their market share is growing, rapidly, and that they are siphoning the market away from more traditional consoles. But Cousins thinks that this is due more to monetization than anything else, as most of the games developed for Apple, Google and Facebook use freemium models. Now he’s outlined how console games themselves, and how we pay for them, are also changing.
