Time to get Crazy-Batty with Gotham City Imposters

Time to get Crazy-Batty with Gotham City Imposters

For those of you who have read some of the initial press or reviews about Monolith’s eagerly awaited Gotham City Impostors, you’re most likely pretty stoked that it comes out tomorrow. If you haven’t, then get ready for, as Monolith puts it, “Over-the-top gameplay where players become personalized versions of the Bats and the Jokerz.” Yep, that’s right, you get to play as impostors of either The Caped Crusader or his insane and chaotic antagonist, The Joker. Did I mention it’s only $15?

Risen 2: Dark Waters Collector’s Edition unveiled

Risen 2: Dark Waters Collector’s Edition unveiled

Today, publisher Deep Silver has announced a truly collectible Collector’s Edition of Risen 2, their pirate RPG. I say it’s truly collectible because its one of the few limited editions to not include a book of DLC codes, and instead contains only physical goodies.

Dragon’s Dogma Includes a RE6 Demo

Dragon’s Dogma Includes a RE6 Demo

When I played Dragon’s Dogma at last year’s E3 I found a competent hack-and-slash title that, while fun, didn’t exactly grab me in a way that warranted a day one purchase. Well, that may be changing, though it’s not due to Dragon’s Dogma itself; rather, it’s because Capcom is bundling the game with the first Resident Evil 6 demo, and I just can’t say no to Resident Evil.

Square-Enix Planning Lots of Final Fantasy XIII-2 DLC

Square-Enix Planning Lots of Final Fantasy XIII-2 DLC

FFXIII-2 isn’t even out in the West yet and Square-Enix is already assuming that the game will be successful enough to warrant a long series of paid DLC and merchandise.

While Final Fantasy XIII’s heroine Lightning is relegated to a supporting role within XIII-2′s main storyline, the first DLC pack for the game will once again allow players to add Lightning to their party as a playable character, provided they can defeat her in a coliseum battle first. In addition to Lightning, the DLC pack will also let players add several classic Final Fantasy monsters to their party as well.

While the first DLC pack is limited to simply letting you add Lightning to your party as a bonus characters, Square is already planning future DLC that will flesh out Lightning’s story further. It doesn’t end there either: if the DLC is successful, Square plans to create even more downloadable story chapters that focus on FFXIII’s afro-wearing, chocobo lovin’ Sazh as well as new fanservicey merchant character Chocolina.

If nothing else, the announcement of all this DLC shows that Square-Enix is still committed into turning Final Fantasy XIII into a decade-long franchise, a-la FF7, despite the lukewarm reaction from fans to the series so far.

Jak and Daxter Collection arriving February 7, promises trophies galore.

Jak and Daxter Collection arriving February 7, promises trophies galore.

For all you achievement nuts out there, Sony says the new Jak and Daxter Collection (PS3) will feature more than 100 trophies to collect. Other perks to this compilation of PlayStation remakes — the former including The God of War Collection and The Sly Collection — will feature 720p HD graphics and stereoscopic 3D functionality.

Though seemingly lazy (since these and other PS3 remasters are still fairly recent), this is a great opportunity for those who missed out on the Jak and Daxter series. The PlayStation Blog promises that trophies — crafted by the team at Mass Media — will depend on variations in the type of mission.

The Jak and Daxter Collection will hit stores on Feb. 7 (about two weeks) for the asking price of $39.99. And for those of you who enjoy fishing for the impossible, there will, of course, be platinum trophies.

Mass Effect 3 Action Figures Include In-game Bonuses

Mass Effect 3 Action Figures Include In-game Bonuses

Hyped for Mass Effect 3? Did you buy an N7 hoodie for the specific purpose of wearing it while you play Shepard’s final adventure? Got a “Normandy” vanity plate for your car? Well, then you probably already have both waves of Bioware’s upcoming set of Mass Effect action figures pre-ordered, but just in case you haven’t given in to temptation yet, EA is giving you another incentive to pick up these 7″ recreations of Shepard’s squad — each figure will include bonus, randomized DLC codes for use on the Xbox 360 or PC versions of the game.

Bioware is stating that the DLC codes included in each action figure are “slightly randomized” and give you powerful new weapons and abilities to use within Mass Effect 3. Unfortunately, the action figures won’t be available until April or May, so you may have finished ME3 by the time these toys hit store shelves. Then again, the included DLC might just be enough of an incentive to play the game over again.

I’m of mixed opinion on this; on the one hand, it’s a shameless cash grab on EA’s part to get people to pay more for in-game content, but on the other hand, I’m a huge Mass Effect nerd and was probably going to buy some of these action figures anyway, so it’s nice that I’m getting a little extra bonus for doing so. Mass Effect 3 comes out for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on March 6th.

The compilation contains 3 of Ubisoft’s best downloadable titles: Michel Ancel’s critically lauded action adventure Beyond Good and Evil HD, the color-based action platformer Outland, and Eric Chahi’s ambitious god game From Dust.
