5 MIA Games We Hope to See at E3 2012

5 MIA Games We Hope to See at E3 2012

E3 is less than a month away, and I’m already salivating at the thought of all the new games that I’ll get to see and play. It’s an exciting time for the industry: we’re on the cusp of a new generation of consoles, and there’s lots of high profile, triple-A titles scheduled to come out this Fall… but while I’m sure everyone is excited to see more of Assassin’s Creed III, Resident Evil 6, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, there are a handful of lower key, oft-rumored, unannounced, or un-localized games that I’m hoping will make an appearance at this year’s E3 as well.

I don’t Think Racy Outfits are Demeaning to Women, but they are Indeed Pathetic.

I don’t Think Racy Outfits are Demeaning to Women, but they are Indeed Pathetic.

Night Elves, you dress like sluts. Vierra in Ivalice, you’re fetish fuel. Bunny in Bunny Must Die, are you kidding me you flat-chested rabbit/cat-eared albino in a bunny suit? Sill Plain pre-Sengoku Rance, your kimono looks a lot better than being practically naked. Any woman ever drawn by Luis Royo, you’re a whore, not a warrior. Put down that sword and find someone without a fetish for impractical armor.

Top 10 Great Game Endings

Top 10 Great Game Endings

So a good chunk of the hardcore gaming community is pretty butthurt over Mass Effect 3′s ending, and rightfully so: as I stated in my review and my follow-up editorial, ME3′s ending really is pretty terrible. But instead of reopening that bitter wound, let’s talk about game endings that were actually good.

Do Gamers Realize When They Break the Law?

Do Gamers Realize When They Break the Law?

Sometimes I’m disgusted to call myself a gamer. Communities rife with pirates, racists, sexual harassment, homophobia, nationalism, hackers, threats… put the kettle on I’m writing another novel-length opinion piece.

I’m not a programmer, I’m not a designer, I’m not anyone who makes content for sale. Despite this you all know my opinion of piracy; I hate it. Even companies like EA and so on who use DRM and publishers that spit on developers, people who don’t deserve money, aren’t exempt from that stance. Onto my point, some gamers regularly break the law, often in ways that they think nobody cares about. Well people do.

Why I’m happy about GAME’s Shutdown

Why I’m happy about GAME’s Shutdown

As I may or may not have mentioned, I’m originally from Scotland, a lovely country, small but lovely (except for those damn neds). We have a good industry, we got a huge boost from shipbuilding, and we are home to James Watt, one of the best engineers to exist. We’re also home to stores that sell things and that will be the focus of my story.

Editorial: Yes, Mass Effect’s Ending Was Terrible, But The Fanboy Reaction Is Even Worse

Editorial: Yes, Mass Effect’s Ending Was Terrible, But The Fanboy Reaction Is Even Worse

I liked Mass Effect 3. I hated the ending. I wasn’t the only one, obviously, and for the past week nerds everywhere have made a Bruce Banner-ish transformation into unstoppable beings of pure, unsubstantiated rage. I’m all for voicing your dissatisfaction, but the means that many fanboys have used to share their hatred for Mass Effect 3 — stalking Bioware employees and launching personal attacks over the internet, running and crying to the government — only serve as a reminder that a good chunk of the gaming community really are the whiney, emotionally unbalanced man-children that the mass media likes to stereotype gamers as.

Top 5 Star Wars Games

Top 5 Star Wars Games

Geeks everywhere are still mourning the loss of of Ralph McQuarrie, the visionary conceptual artist who played an integral role in designing the look of the original Star Wars trilogy. Even if you weren’t familiar with McQuarrie by name or even if you’re somehow not a fan of Star Wars, it’s undeniable that McQuarrie’s work has left an indelible influence on all sci-fi movies, comics, anime, and of course, video games.

User-Created Content is Important to Game Longevity

User-Created Content is Important to Game Longevity

A month ago I got on my horse, and took to the wilderness. Looking up at the sky for one of the airships that hung idly in the sky. Seeing one, I dismounted my horse and dropped down some dust. Throwing my sword into the pattern of blue dust, I used my tome to activate the symbol, infusing the weapon with extreme power. Taking a running jump from a nearby tree, I grabbed onto the wing, pulling myself onto it. Smashing one of the windows, I crawled into the ship, the fragile but mighty sword in hand. I did battle with the armor-clad sky pirates, the sheer power of the sword striking them down until it shattered, their own swords and arrows crushed my armor and my health. Welp, time to abandon ship.

Final Fantasy Needs A Reboot: Here’s What They Need To Do

Final Fantasy Needs A Reboot: Here’s What They Need To Do

It’s no secret that the Final Fantasy brand isn’t what it used to be. Sure, the games still sell well enough and publisher Square-Enix is still probably raking in millions from all the related merchandise they pump out, but recent games have left fans dissatisfied, and the sustainability and future of Square’s cash cow is definitely questionable.

[Opinion] Why the Wii U is a Great Name and How it Could be Better

[Opinion] Why the Wii U is a Great Name and How it Could be Better

Ever since the Wii U was announced last year there has been plenty of mockery of its hardware and even more so, its name. I agree that it is a weird choice, especially for Nintendo which hasn’t made a “sequel” home console since NES/SNES, though they have done it with portable game systems since their inception. The gaming market has changed and they need to change with it.
