Megaupload Down, Other File-Sharing Services Follow Suit

After the tremendous pressure by the US government, Megaupload collapsed yesterday. As the major hacking syndicate Anonymous started to take down major corporation’s sites, there was a storm brewing. With Fileserve, Filesonic and VideoBB being listed in the 72 page indictment, they all withdrew their affiliate programs earlier today.

After withdrawing their affiliate programs, it has left the file-sharing community in a state of frenzy as these companies have not made a move to pay their users they money they owe them. It won’t be long before other file-sharing services will follow suit and also get rid of their affiliate programs. How will that affect you? With no monetary value for the users to gain, the whole file-sharing community will crumble.

The state of fear and panic is rampant in the online communities. As it is further proven that the US government is adamant in taking control of the internet, I would like to send out a plea to the rest of the online community. Don’t be scared, fight and fight hard. If we withdraw from the fight, they win. It is important to show these people that the internet was invented during our generation and that the internet belongs to us and therefore, we should be consulted with any decisions made about it.

SOPA and PIPA may be dead for now, but don’t relax and get too comfortable just yet. There will be more bills and there will be more fights. This is war we have to win because for most of us, it’s all we have.
